A Plethora of Possibilities

Every morning I wake up and the first thing I do is happily turn on my computer.  I won’t get into how frustrating it can be to open the ten or so tabs just to check my email accounts, social network accounts, blackboard for school and the countless websites that are of interest…but I will say it is frustrating. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to access all of this in one window? One stop shopping in a manner of speaking.

Lately, I have been struggling to find my place in this world of internet excess. I have many interests and the number grows daily. I have people I want to stay in contact with and a yearning to meet new people. Not to mention learning everything there is to learn and discovering new ways of doing things. These key components merely scratch the surface of who I am and the day only holds 24 hours.

What I am trying to say is how do we maintain a level of sanity and create a positive internet experience and web presence that is conducive to who we fundamentally are?

I welcome your thoughts and leave you with this photo which illustrates the beauty of possibly and the burden of  chaos.

Touched up in Photoshop CS3.

i hear that!. that would so great. i’m not sure if its like the need to know or the idea of not knowing….

i’m talking about whats going on in the web world. your daily sites that you visit. i do suppose rss feed is that solution….for now anyway. but what if it was all there organized into one place. like for instance: blogs , forums , facebook; those recent “new posts” or whatever new thing it is from that day be sent dirently to either a webpage or to some kind of application or client you could call it to handle this.

i hope my thoughts are coming out clearly.

now i do know i am not the only one who would love this idea to come true

  1. I’m just as frustrated as you are. And often times I lose touch with websites or people that I just forget about since I fail to write anything and everything down and solely rely on my memory (not a great idea, I know, but I do have a strangely good memory for certain things…). But I guess on a certain level it’s like learning. We retain the relevant information and pass on information which one could deem as “less-relevant.”

Having an application which could throw all that information at you may be handy. But would it become too over-bearing? I just feel that those people who I stay in touch with and the websites I frequently visit are more relevant than those I pass up. You said it yourself, “the day is only 24 hours long” (paraphrased of course). We don’t have time to read all the new articles or speak with all your friends. And I know you aren’t suggesting that. That’s just my devil’s advocate stand on it.

Maybe I’m just incredibly burnt out over the past few weeks with the internet. It’s become so over-bearing with everything I’m told I should keep up with. And that’s coming from a kid who lives on the internet.

I think I’m just ranting at this point or talking in circles. So, in conclusion, having an application (web or desktop side) could be very interesting in order to stay “up-to-date” but maybe it’s too much. Maybe we’re not supposed to stay as “up-to-date” as we think. We are only human. Keep learning and living but that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to sit there and stare off into the sunset. Because those are the moments we remember anyway… Not the status updates of friends or the latest blog post on how much the Apple iPad “revolutionized” the world.

Disclaimer: I’m tired. In an anti-internet mood. The above words are reflective of my immediate past’s mood and may not be representative of current Jordan. That said, feel free to argue any point.
